Earlsburn North Wind Farm Extension Granted Planning Permission

A planning application for an extension to Earlsburn North Wind Farm, near Stirling, which comprises up to 9 turbines, was today accepted by Stirling Council.

Atmos Consulting provided specialist ornithological input into the Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA) for this project.  Atmos' specialist ornithologists, lead by Consultancy Director Stewart Lowther, carried out ornithological surveys between October 2006 to September 2007, with additional surveys between March and September 2008. The initial EcIA was submitted in early 2008, with additional information following in early 2009.

Extensive collision risk analysis and assessment of red kite and osprey against the Central Scotland population concluded that there was not a significant impact from this development, both singularly and cumulatively, to these species. Both Scottish Natural Heritage and the RSPB accepted the conclusion that the viability of these species would not be compromised by the development.

The rated output from each turbine on the wind farm extension, once constructed, will be between 2 MW and 3 MW.

The project developer, Falck Renewables, has gifted one of the Earlsburn North turbines as a "community turbine" and provides the revenues from that turbine to the local community.
