Ecosystem Services is broadly defined as four categories of beneficial processes that the environment provides to humans: provisioning; regulating; supporting; and cultural services. It was initially developed to aid our understanding of the human use and management of natural resources. Many local and national projects have been and are being embarked upon to map out our landscape in these terms, usually in the form of colour coded maps showing the relative value of land parcels to each service.

The Atmos inverness team have treated Primary 4 and 5 pupils at Avoch Primary School to an interactive wildlife lesson. Sarah Rauch-Lynch and Kirsty McDonald brought along a number of examples of wildlife including a stuffed badger and seal and the skeleton of a bat. They talked to pupils about the signs to look out for when looking for these animals in the wild. Pupils had an opportunity to touch the various wildlife examples and learned about the different types of cameras used to watch and record the animals in their natural environment.

Today, Monday 7 March 2016 Atmos Consulting has announced important changes to its senior leadership team. The announcement is the latest stage of an ongoing strategy to reposition the company to take fuller advantage of emerging new business opportunities in areas including construction and infrastructure.

Following ten years with Atmos Consulting, Stewart Lowther has decided to step down from his role as Managing Director to pursue interests outside the business. He is replaced by current Operations Director Jean Curran who brings to her new position a wealth of managerial and business development experience coupled with strong technical expertise in renewable energy, sustainable development and property and regeneration.

Atmos Consulting is delighted to have been appointed to provide planning consultancy services to support plans for a £70 million 19.8 MWe biomass generating plant in Glenrothes, Fife, being brought forward by sustainable energy developers Sainc Energy Limited. Waste heat from the plant (in the region of 50 MW) will be used to provide heating for up to 30,000 homes.
