Air Quality

Atmos offers a wide range of air consultancy services in relation to infrastructure developments, such as road and rail schemes, industrial plant and energy / waste facilities:

Baseline assessment studies, including background monitoring of gaseous pollutants and particulates (roadside monitoring); pollution inventory/emission screening using published emission factors (The UK National Air Quality Inventory); consultations with statutory bodies such as the Local Authority, Environment Agency or SEPA.
Semi-quantitative assessment of the environmental effects of road schemes using the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (2003) Volume 11 (Part 1 – Air Quality).
Quantitative assessment of emissions to air from the development activities/sources, using AERMOD (US EPA Atmospheric Emission Regulatory Model) which is designed to predict pollutant concentrations from continuous point, area, flare, line and volume sources of emissions to air. Terrain effects are modelled and pollutant ground level concentrations are predicted at selected receptor locations. The predicted concentrations are compared to the statutory UK air quality objectives (where available) and the background concentrations at the nearest automatic monitoring network locations.
Preparation of Air Quality Management Plans for the construction phase of the development.
Design and implementation of Air Quality Monitoring Programmes in conjunction with the development.
